the best camp has to offer and we believe Stephen will provide
that to you and your staff. His monthly column for New England camp
professionals, “From the Backpack”, will be an outstanding addition to our
website and a valuable resource for you. He will also be writing a “Tip
of the week” for camp as well, so be sure to check back often. We welcome
Steve and hope you enjoy his work! We think New England’s own Steve
Maguire is quickly becoming one of the nation’s top professional camp
consultants. He has been teaching, counseling, and working with schools
and camps for over 16 years. His specialty area is working with summer
camp staff members. A 1997 graduate of Plymouth State University, NH,
Steve began working as a public educator and coach. He has also served in
various summer camp roles from general counselor to camp director, earning
his first camp director job at the age of 26.
In 2003,
he was voted the “Teacher Who Most Inspires” by the student body where he
currently teaches. He has been asked to consult for such nationally
recognized organizations as the ACA (American Camp Association),
NRPA (National Parks and Recreation Association), MADD
(Mother’s Against Drunk Driving) and SADD (Students Against
Destructive Decision making). He has presented at the American Camp
Association’s regional conferences around the country as well as for the
National Parks and Recreation Association, The Connecticut Parks
and Recreation Association, and The Massachusetts Parks and
Recreation Association. He recently gave the Keynote address the
Northern New England Parks and Recreation Association in
January of 2007. He has been published in the education magazine
Teaching K-8. An active member of the MIAA’s (Massachusetts
Interscholastic Athletic Association) “Partner’s in Prevention” program,
Steve has given workshops and presentations for educators and students
across the United States.
Steve
is a dynamic speaker and his ability to engage the emotions and minds of
his audience are a powerful combination. His presentations
are known for their clear organization, sense of humor, and pragmatic
outcomes.
In the spring of 2005, he started his own business, Maguire
Presentations. In his first full year of business, Steve worked with over
25 camps around the country. He currently teaches high school and gives
his presentations year round. He resides in Scituate, MA with his wife
