Whisperwood August 2024
- 35th Guest Fishing Tournament
August 17th to August 23rd
Final Results
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Whisperwood's Mike (11))
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Whisperwood's Mike (10))
Day 1: Saturday, August 17th:
Whisperwood's 35th Guest Bass Tournament started on a windless,
calm, cloudy and mild day. Salmon & McGrath Lakes
were in great shape with 75 degree water temperatures and extremely
clear water conditions. Plenty of weeds, humps and all kinds of
rocky and wood structure loaded with bass waiting to ambush their
prey. The Whisperwood anglers were ready and raring to go.
Whisperwood's Mike was off and running with an excellent run of 17,
18 and 19 inch bass. His 4 pound, 19 inch largemouth bass and 17
inch smallmouth bass leads both divisions for now but Whisperwood
bass tournament history clearly shows early leads don't usually hold
up through the tournament. Let's see what Sunday has in store for
our anglers. Stay tuned!
Day 1 leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 19 inches (Mike)
Day 2:
Sunday, August 18th:
Another cloudy, overcast and
cool day with light winds and the Whisperwood anglers got an early
start today. John Ackerman, seasoned Whisperwood veteran with
multiple Tournament wins under his belt was teamed up with his
brother Dan. The Ackerman brothers posted a pair of 18 inch
largemouth bass and several other smallmouth and largemouth bass but
will need a few more inches to pass the leading bass numbers.
Whisperwood's Mike locked into a 21 inch largemouth bass
on one of his homemade spinnerbaits this morning to extend his
largemouth bass lead. Adding several more 18 inch largemouth bass
with a half dozen smallmouth bass made it another excellent fish
catching day. There will be more anglers joining the tournament this
week and the weather is looking very good for most of the upcoming
week. Check in tomorrow night for the day 3 results.
Day 2: leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Mike)
Day 3: Monday,
August 19th:
The cool, cloudy, light wind weather
conditions continues and the Whisperwood anglers responded with more
excellent bass catching expertise. John Ackerman's 19.5 inch
largemouth and Whisperwood's Mike's 20 incher were the big fish of
the day along with multiple 18 and 19 inch largemouth bass. The
water temperature is a perfectly clear 73 degrees and the bass are
responding very well to the mid August cool temperatures. No changes
in the leader board today.
Day 3: leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Mike)
Day 4:
Tuesday, August 20th:
The cool cloudy weather continues, however, this morning the
consistent southwest wind finally changed to a northwest wind. The
temperatures cooled to the low 60's and the water temperatures
dipped into the low 70's. Many of the Whisperwood anglers took the
day off with other activities planned and with 3 more full days of
fishing, there is plenty of time to change the standings.
Whisperwood's Mike added another 18 inch, 3.5 pound largemouth but
the current standings remain unchanged through Tuesday.
Day 4: leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Mike)
Day 5:
Wednesday, August 21st:
A better weather day
today with partial sunny skies and light winds once again, very
unusual for so many calm days. Whisperwood's Mike is doing very well
with the morning bite with another solid 18 inch largemouth bass. No
reports from John and his fishing buddy Rick now joins the anglers
for the Guest Tournament week. There were no changes in the
standings.
Day 5: leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Mike)
Day 6:
Thursday, August 22nd:
This morning started with intense
fog and it looked like a great morning to catch some really big
bass, however, the tournament giant bass didn't materialize for any
of our anglers. After breakfast the fog completely cleared and a
beautiful Maine, blue sky, puffy white cloud low 70's day emerged.
Plenty of bass were caught this morning but nothing near the top
catches. There were no changes in the standings. Tomorrow is the
last day and we have had several past tournaments change leads and
even a leader from the last 30 minutes of the tournament. We will
see what our final day has in store for the Whisperwood anglers.
Day 6: leader board:
Smallmouth Bass division: 17 inches (Mike)
Largemouth Bass division: 21 inches (Mike)
Day 7: Friday,
August 23rd:
The overcast weather finally broke
this morning with a clear, crisp, light wind Maine morning. The
entire day was blue sky, puffy white clouds, low humidity and
temperatures in the 70's, we were expecting a terrific fishing day
with more big bass but Mike's 20 incher before breakfast turned out
to be the big bass of the day.
Thank you to all the
anglers entered in the 35th Whisperwood Guest Bass Tournament and we
hope to continue with the 36th Tournament next June.
